What A Beautiful Day

Joining in with a song with inspired by words like “beautiful” with a great track from over twenty years ago. The Levellers – top band – and this is one of the tracks I have listened to a million times.

“Beautiful Day”…the first line echoes around my head throughout the summer. I love it, hope you will.

"BEAUTIFUL DAY" - THE LEVELLERS
WRITERS: Friend/Heather/Cunningham/Sevink

What a beautiful day (hey hey)
I'm the king of all time
And nothing is impossible
In my all powerful mind

Was on the fifth of November, when time it went back
Some say that's impossible, but you and I would never look back
And wasn't it incredible, so beautiful and above all
Just to see the fuse get lit this time
To light a real bonfire, for all time

And what a beautiful day (hey hey)
I'm the king of all time
And nothing is impossible
In my all powerful mind

I was drinking in my night club
It felt good to be back
When Hepburn said "I love you"
And Flynn said, "Make mine a double, Jack"

Then we planned the revolution
To make things better for all time
And when the Guevara said "That's crazy"
And ordered up a bottle of wine

What a beautiful day (hey hey)
I'm the king of all time
And nothing is impossible
In my all powerful mind

In there on the big screen, every night I've seen
The way all things could be
For me, for me, for me, for me

The news broke after midnight,
That we pulled the temples down without a sound
But the generals they were hiding out
And the ministers, well! They'd all gone to ground

Wealth re-distribution, became the new solution
So I got a paper bag, but you got the one with all the holes

What a beautiful day (hey hey)
I'm the king of all time
And nothing is impossible
In my all powerful mind

Oh yeah, nothing is impossible
In my own powerful mind

That's because nothing is impossible
In my own powerful mind

“We Always Take My Car”

Joining in with a car song today. I have had this tune in my head all month. Apparently, “I Get Around” was the first US Number One for The Beach Boys. But that was way before my time!

Famously it was used in two very popular movies that have been repeated over and over on TV my whole life! That is how I came to know this track and see the pure fun of it. Technically the second video is for adults only.

"I GET AROUND - THE BEACH BOYS
WRITERS: Brian Wilson and Mike Love

Round round get around
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I'm makin' real good bread

I'm gettin' bugged driving up and down this same old strip
I gotta finda new place where the kids are hip

My buddies and me are getting real well known
Yeah, the bad guys know us and they leave us alone

I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I'm makin' real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Get around round round oooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo

We always take my car cause it's never been beat
And we've never missed yet with the girls we meet

None of the guys go steady cause it wouldn't be right
To leave their best girl home on a Saturday night

I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I'm makin' real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah

Round round get around
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
Get around round round I get around
Wah wa ooo
Get around round round I get around
Oooo ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo

“Nothing More To Say”

Joining in with a famous break-song, I think one of the saddest in some ways, because the singer was voicing words that were incredibly apt at the time. Although they say the words are fiction rather than the reality of their breakups, they did acknowledge the song was inspired by their own heartbreak.

I have read that Agnetha Fältskog felt this was her personal favourite from ABBA’s catalogues. I also believe that the video was shot immediately after the divorce of Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog was legally official. It’s quite a number and I can only imagine it must have been tough to sing a song that marked the breakdown of a marriage.

"THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL" - ABBA
WRITERS: Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus

I don't wanna talk
About things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play

The winner takes it all
The loser's standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny

I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules

The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain?

But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say?
Rules must be obeyed

The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all

I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all

So the winner takes it all
And the loser has to fall
Throw a dice, cold as ice
Way down here, someone dear
Takes it all, has to fall
It seems plain to me
